7 Things to Help You Through A Difficult Season

We’ve all had days or long seasons when life has become so full of challenges that it seems nothing is going as we’d hoped!

I’ve had long seasons where the plans I’ve made or what I’ve set out to accomplish was somehow diverted by some unforeseen circumstance. Everything I attempted to resolve matters and regain momentum failed. Well I’ve just come out of one of those long. Seasons. The good news is it didn’t last. The bad news is it was painful. There are scars and residue that ensure the pain and lessons will not be forgotten.

In the grand scheme of things, a hectic day doesn’t impact life or eternity all that much, but when a day becomes days that evolve into an extended season of financial strain, a lack of provision, various other challenges, it leads to feelings of frustration, uncertainty, and can seem overwhelming.

Here are 7 things that have helped me through those unforeseen, difficult seasons in life. My sincerest prayer is that these reminders will help you too!

No one can avoid struggles in life However, we can learn to minimize the dysfunctional habits and alter the way things are handled.

1. Remember you’ve been here before and you were raised up from out of the ashes by the ha d of God. He did not abandon you then. He will not abandon you now! Therefore, hold on to Him; hold on to your faith. Because of your faith, God will do it!

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the           Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6.

2. Remember that your Character should not be defined by your Circumstances. You are being tested and witnessed. Therefore, let your conduct be honorable in the sight of God and others. There’s is no room for false guilt, pity, self loathing, self condemnation. However your circumstances came upon you, God is full of grace and mercy. He is sovereign. You are a child of God in a storm that only He can calm.

3. Need something to keep you active and your thoughts centered on Christ? Practice spiritual disciplines. These are the things that we do as Christians (Devotion, Prayer, Read Scriptures, Meditate on the Word, Fellowship with God and Others). These practical spiritual disciplines will add strength and resolve and ensure an unshakable foundation in the storm you are facing and prepare you for any storms you may encounter in the future.

“Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness” 1 Timothy 4:7 ( NAS ).

4. Don’t allow your emotions to overpower your intelligence. Control your mood and emotions. Calmness is mastery. Get to a point where your mood does not shift based on the insignificant actions of others or what you see in front of you. What you see is temporary. What others are doing or have done are distractions. They serve you no purpose and no good. They are insignificant. They cannot change your circumstances. They are spectators who cannot rescue you. God created you with the intelligence and self control needed to wait this out. Fix your mind and heart to Wait on your Savior, Jesus Christ.

5. Remember that your Struggles will always produce in you a greater Strength. If you allow God, He will use every battle and every challenge in your life, no matter the size or weight of it, to produce in you a greater, lasting strength, more faith, deeper perseverance, and supernatural peace! God wastes nothing. Therefore, all of your pain, all of your suffering has with it a purpose.

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

6. Surrender to God’s will. God’s timing. God’s sovereign plan. God is at work and He will manifest His solution to your struggles in His timing. Remember— God’s plans are always perfect and always, always on time!

7. God wants you to live in hope. To praise God in difficult situations is the most uplifting thing you can do in your life. The reward is not only hope, but a spirit of peace and being content in the midst of your circumstances. These are priceless, especially when facing a storm!

God is preparing each of us to be the vessel He wants to use in the life of another person...

I read this today and it fits with what I believe God is speaking to me… "Do not stay in the stronghold. Go into the land of Judah"... - 1 Samuel 22:5 When life beats down on us and we get to the place where we want to hide in a cave, God often places people around us who prod us into moving in the right direction. He does not want us to remain in the place of discouragement. He wants us to move into the land of "praise." Judah means "praise." "You must keep moving! There are too many who are depending on you in the Kingdom." I didn't totally understand what he meant at the time. Now I know he was saying that God is preparing each of us to be the vessel He wants to use in the life of another person, but we will never be that vessel if we give up and hide in our cave of discouragement. Not only must we keep moving, we must move into a new realm. Our attitude must move from discouragement to praise. It is when we move past discouragement

Can I encourage you today to stop judging yourself?

Do you struggle with self-acceptance? So many of us tend to compare ourselves to others and then we pass judgment on ourselves and determine that we come up short. Why is it that we don't seem to appreciate who God created us to be? Why can't we simply be happy with who we are? Do you experience this feeling of low self-worth? I know I sometimes do. God created us differently for a reason. Each being is unique in his or her own way; we're uniquely crafted individuals purposely formed by God for God. When we are critical and judge one another, we are judging God’s work and when we judge ourselves, we are actually saying to God that we don’t like what He made. Sometimes we have to dig deep to find self-acceptance because when we don't accept ourselves as God made us, we not only reject His workmanship, but we open up a huge opportunity for our discontent to grow and expand into other areas of our lives. “ We are God’s workmanship” (Ephesians 2:10). Are you constantly

Do you have Christian Community?

As believers we are instructed in God's word to come together for fellowship with Christ and one another. One way to accomplish this is through Christian community. “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin” 1 John 1:7. “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching…” Hebrews 10:24. Christian community should not be about being in a social clique and it should extend beyond attending church. What it should be about is a body of believers coming together as one in Christ to share, love and care for one another. We should come together as the body of Christ to pray and worship with one another. We also should come together to help meet the needs of others. If we study the meaning of Jesu
